Dedication of
SCHARFSTEIN PARK
The City of Melfort, Melfort & District Museum, and Communities in Bloom have collaborated on a joint heritage project to mount historical plaques on significant heritage buildings and sites in downtown Melfort. This will complement the Historical Walking Tour that the museum has developed and that is an ongoing project.
The first historical plaque will be mounted at the pocket park on Main Street, Melfort, first block, west side, and is titled SCHARFSTEIN PARK, in tribute to the longest-running and most recent business located on this site. (see attached historical timeline).
The dedication will take place:
Monday, September 9th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
Mayor Rick Lang will be on hand to offer congratulations from the city and Councillor Donna Ponath will bring greetings on behalf of the Heritage Committee. As well, the three sons of Joe Scharfstein: Brian, Grant and Jim Scharfstein will join us to reminisce with old friends.
Following a brief ceremony, coffee and refreshments will be served at Plus Junction beside the park.
Come and learn more about the history of just one building, one business that helped shape the development of Melfort and our downtown business core. Come help celebrate our heritage.
The public is invited to attend.
