Urgent Appeal East Africa Drought - Melfort Rotary

Wed, Aug 24 - Thurs, Aug

Melfort Rotary Club has set up a SHELTERBOX at Memorial Garden on Main Street.  We will spend all day on site Wednesday, August 24, overnight until Thursday, August 25, to accept your donations.  We will provide a BBQ LUNCH on Thursday, August 25 at Noon for $5.00.

The Rotary Club of Melfort is responding to an URGENT APPEAL EAST AFRICA DROUGHT by raising funds to send to SHELTERBOX, an international Rotary emergency relief project.  The Canadian Government is matching all donations sent by September 16, 2011.

The drought affecting Eastern Africa is the worst the region has seen in 60 years.  Millions of families have been affected by massive water and food shortages.  The drought and ongoing conflict in Somalia has caused families to flee their homes and thousands are arriving at refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia every day.

The need for shelter is massive and SHELTERBOX is responding to help the most vulnerable.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that close to 400,000 people are living in or near the refugee camps.  SHELTERBOX has committed help to 3600 families so far, but stands ready to continue helping those in dire need.

Your donation will help provide emergency shelter to people in East Africa that have been forced to flee from their homes.  Donate Now!  Double your impact with matching funds from the Canadian Government.  Tax Receipts Available.

For more information, contact:  Virginia Haahr at 752-5077, Brian Cocks at 752-3760 or Gailmarie Anderson at 752-5870.  Thank you!
