Canadian Cancer Society (North East Unit)

The Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. This is done through research, education, patient services, advocacy and fund-raising to support these programs. The Board of Directors meets approximately 6 times per year and volunteers are always welcome.

North East Crisis Intervention Centre

Located at 103 McKendry Avenue East

The Centre provides services to victims of family violence and sexual assault/abuse. The board and volunteers meet once per month. The center is open 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The crisis line operates 24 hours per day.

This support group meets weekly on Tuesdays at the St. James Presbyterian Church on MacLeod Avenue West. Weigh-ins begins at 5:30 pm, with a short meeting from 6:30 - 7:00 pm. This is a support group with healthy ideas and incentives to guide you to permanent lifestyle changes with your weight. New members always welcome.

Kelsey Trail Health Region

The Kelsey Trail Health Authority serves the City of Melfort and the surrounding area. There are over 43,500 people in the region served by hospitals in the communities of Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, and Hudson Bay. There are medical clinics in many of the smaller communities. Melfort has most medical services available to the city in the areas of hospital, emergency, long-term care, home care, mental health and addictions, rehabilitation, and community health services. Melfort has 16 physicians, 4 pharmacies, 6 chiropractors and 3 dentists located in the City.

Located at 505 Broadway Avenue North the Melfort Hospital provide the medical care necessary for Melfort and area. The following services are provided:

Home care is provided to about 400 people per year and respite care services to about 30 people annually, enable people to remain independent in their homes. Services include nursing, personal care, homemaking, respite, meals, and minor home maintenance.


Mental Health and Addictions Services

A district clinic is located in Melfort providing programs and services for people with mental health problems and mental illness. The services include assessment, counseling, treatment, and consultation services. Treatment and prevention services are available for those affected by an addiction to alcohol and/or drugs or by gambling problems. Integrated care management provides support for individuals with behavioral problems.
